Marktoberdorf

>competition entry

REITER.ARCHITECTS submitted a competition design for a bus terminal in Marktoberdorf, Germany. The long and narrow plot required an alignment of station forecourt, bicycle parking, bus station and car parking. As a result, pedestrians needed to cover long distances to the station building. Especially the need for a central tourist information on the one hand and bicycle parking for 300 bicycles within short distance of the station on the other hand led to a conflict.

We proposed to use the different heights of the plot and shift the bicycle parking below the station forecourt. Thus, the tourist information can be situated right in front of the station, the station forecourt itself does not look messed up and the bicycle parking does not need an extra roof.

Furthermore, the bicycle parking could be used as an entrance to a pedestrian underpass that is going to be realized at a later stage and will acces the area in the western part of the rails.

This competiton was made in cooperation with Lutz Ring and a.k.a.ingenieure.
